Residential Rain Garden
Spring 2024
To address the home owner's interest in a sustainable, year-round garden in the front of their home, I proposed a rain garden full of native plants to redirect stormwater from the roof. The plant palette covers all seasons with texture and color as well as a structural height hierarchy to keep pedestrians comfortable as they pass on the sidewalk.
Upon further review by the Westland Planning Commission, however, we had to split the design in half and allocate space in the front yard and backyard of the home- as planting in the Right-of-Way was prohibited. The new design reused all of the specified plants and incorporated new ones.
